4hoog is... gripping, playful and bright theatre, fascinating the large and small.
1997: the creation of 4hoog. Caroline Lanoye and Raf Walschaerts start a new production house that makes theatre for children between 2.5 and 12 years old, and more in particular for toddlers. In 2001, 4hoog receives - sooner than expected - a structural start-up subsidy of the Flemish Community, thanks to which they can start thinking on a longer term and create a distinct profile. Apart from the Flemish Community subsidies, 4hoog also receives a yearly activity subsidy from the province of East-Flanders.
The artistic team: Frans (since 2003), Caroline and Raf trace out the lines and keep a watchful and critical eye on the realization of new productions.
Each performance of 4hoog is a mixture of recognition, emotion, humour and poetry. Children's theatre should also fit in with the emotional frame of reference of the target group. That is why not only the story, but also the visual and aural elements are very important in every performance.
But it is also 4hoog’s aim to turn each performance into a special experience for the adult spectators. In short, 4hoog makes gripping, playful and bright theatre.
It is impossible to imagine the Flemish theatre scene without 4hoog, as this theatre company for the youngest audience does at least 150 performances every year.
4hoog has been performing in Flanders, the Walloon provinces, the Netherlands, France, Austria and Germany.
Since 2007 it shares its own special place in the city with Ultima Thule: the Casemates in Ghent.
